The entire watch face is a 61 × 73 grid. Every lit pixel carries a subtle glow, while unlit cells sink into dark background noise: what shines is the time; what stays dark forms the canvas.
Time is rendered in large 5 × 7 dot-matrix characters, arranged vertically in two lines and aligned top to bottom just like a flip board. Date, weekday and battery indicator in the bottom-right use smaller 3 × 5 characters, right-aligned on the right half of the screen. A vertical column of 17 second dots sits between hours and minutes, advancing in sync with system seconds. The five-segment battery gauge at the bottom-right reads the watch’s real battery level, with each segment representing 20% charge.
AOD (Always-on Display) mode is cleaner still: pure black, no background noise and no second dots. Only hours, minutes, month-day, weekday, plus two permanent colon dots between hour and minute remain. Its brightness matches the active screen, with no extra boost.
Character switching happens instantly, no fade-in or fade-out. That is the nature of dot-matrix displays: on means on, off means off. Each cell has slight brightness variation, mimicking an aged vintage screen — no two dots are perfectly identical.
This watch face does not aim to do everything. It simply wants to quietly place time against a black background, waiting for the moment you glance up.
