Battery drain with custom watch faces

Post by maortrol »

Hello.

I'm noting that when I use custom watch faces (in Amazfit GTS), they usually drain battery faster than stock watch faces; but not all custom watch faces does, because my wife is using also a custom watch face (different than mine), and her battery last longer than mine.

However, if I use the Amazfit stock digital watch face (didn't try the stock analog watch face), my battery last longer.

In short: if I use Amazfit stock digital watch face, my battery drains about a 5-6 % per day; if I use a custom watch face, my battery drains about a 10-12 % per day; and if my wife use any stock or custom watch face, her battery drains about 5-6 % per day.

Thinking that maybe the analog clock could be the culprit, I've tried modifying my custom watch face removing the second hand, removing the entire analog clock... but this has no effect in battery drain and still drains a 10 % per day or more...

Does anybody know if there is something in custom watch faces that may affect to battery drain?

Thanks in advance.

1、You can try to use the same dial, the same watch setting as your wife to test.
2、Please remember to turn off your watch and test it after you restart it.

Usually it depends on how much white color it has. As much white more will drain. More even than an animated custom watchface. That's my deep testing as a watchfacemaker. :)

My current custom watch face has a completely black background, only analog clock and numbers are in white (digital hour, steps, calories, battery level...); so, in my case, I think it's not a matter of light or white screen... :?

I'll keep making tests, but thank you anyway! ;-)

The following is a waste of battery:

1、Seconds hand and Seconds digital

2、The vibration of receiving a message (including an alarm clock).

3、Turn on the light on the screen.

4、Use of GPS.

5、Replace the dial

6、Synchronize health data

Thanks so much for your response.

The point Nº 1 was my first suspect, so I modified my custom watchface disabling (not showing) the seconds hand, leaving just the minutes and hours hands (and there's no seconds digital in my watch face). But after that, I didn't realize any significant difference in battery consumption respect showing the seconds hand, honestly...

The rest of the points you mentioned are not present (I have all notifications disabled, don't use GPS these days due to COVID-19 lockdown in Spain), or they are minimal (light of the screen, replacing dial) or mostly inevitable (synchronization of health data). However, I also tried a few days turning off bluetooth, but the problem persist.

I'll keep making tests, but maybe is something wrong with my watch...

After some more testing, I have found that the cause of my battery drain is a change in my way of wearing the watch.

With the pandemic situation, I'm working from home now, spending more time on the PC, and it seems I raise my wrist more often than before (when I went out to the street to work), so the screen is turning on more often, and due to that increased screen-on-display time the battery is lasting less than before.

I have set "Lift wrist to view info" off, having to press button whenever I want to see the time, and battery now is lasting as good as before (5 % a day or so). So it wasn't a problem with the custom watch face, but with a change in my patterns.

When all this pandemic situation ends, and I can return to my routine, will turn "Lift wrist to view info" on again and will see if everything is ok.
