Description
During the time of revolution, decimal time was used in France for a short period of time. It divides the day into 10 hours, the hour into 100 minutes, and the minute into 100 seconds, making 100,000 seconds in a day. (This is sometimes referred to as metric time.)
People are creatures of habit, and this idea did not see wide use or for very long!
For a time Swatch had LCD quartz beats watches, which gave a 3 digit, 000 to 999, which corresponds to the total daily minutes. These watches are no longer manufactured.
Today it is possible to find "decimal watches", but they are usually just a re-faced regular watch. Today's "decimal watches" also often only show a single hour hand, as the hand movement of a 24hr regular movement and a 10hr decimal movement are identical. But - getting the minutes and seconds to show correctly on a decimal dial would require detailed rework of the gearing in the movement.
Here - we have no such mechanical limitations! I have created a full decimal watch face, with two variations; one is midnight at top, and one is noon at top.
This is a very simple dial and hands; there are very few full decimal timepieces that could be used as a model.
I keep this in my on-watch library to show off - but even I will note that this is not a watch that is easy to use all day, every day.
Enjoy!
