Description
Oooooooooooooh, this one is nice! 1923 Calatrava REF. 5224R-001.
Full hour hand shows local time, open hour hand shows the timezone you want.
One of the very few functional analog GMT watches on this site.
Features:
- change colors (bleu, rouge, bronze, vert, charbon de bois) by tapping center
- change the GMT hand by pressing 6 or 18 (3 and 9 o'clock) If you don't choose a time zone, the hour and GMT hands appear as one.
Dynamic shadows and smooth seconds of course.
I must admit I was a bit confused when I first saw this model. 24 hour dial, OK....but upside down? The idea is that the daylight hours are positioned in the upper half of the dial, which ads to legibility. Or so they say. I got used to it quickly.
Preview GIF is the actual watchface running on GTR3 PRO (photographs). I did not feel like making a Photoshop mockup. The download looks much better and cleaner. In fact, you can see the concentric circle pattern on the inner dial.
I did not include the AOD, but it's there.
Patek Phillipe only brings this model in blue. So with this model you are way ahead. ;-)
Cheers!
Exta info:
You read a 24 hour watch like a digital watch. The hours are at half the speed of a normal watch. In the preview, the full hour hand is past 16, and the minute hand is at 39.
So 16 :39.
I'm in the GMT+1 time zone, New York city -for me- is 6 hours earlier. Once I set the GMT hour to -6, I get the NYC time at a glance.
Now you know a GMT. Well, this GMT. In other GMT's, only the GMT hand runs at half speed, so you can read the time the 'normal' way, but have a 24 hour indication as well. You use a rotating bezel to adjust for time zones. But that's another project.
