Descripción
I am not a big fan of replicas or homage watches, but sometimes you have to make an exception...
Bulova is a brand that is currently owned by the Citizen group. They never really made it into the luxury hall of fame but the brand has a fantastic history.
Bulova is known to be the 'second watch on the moon'. When the glass came off his Omega Speedmaster, Apollo 15 astronaut David Scott wore his personal Bulova Lunar Pilot on the moon's surface in 1971. That's pretty cool, but what's even more amazing: a lot of NASA systems in the Apollo space program were running on Bulova Accutron technology. All in all Accutron technology was used in 46 space missions from the 1950's until the 1970's.
This watch face is based on the 1969 Accutron 214 Spaceview. Accutron used a electric driven tuning fork for accurate timekeeping. (The Accutron watches therefore make a humming sound.) It operates at a frequency of 360 Hz, producing a smooth seconds hand. The hour markings and branding were printed on the glass. Many variations were made, so I took the liberty to make my own.
Enjoy!
