Update 19-SEP-2022: Hmmm... Meh !! Remastered ALL components. Added dayofweek and battery complications, smooth hand movement, and a special feature that makes hands transparent when over the date to show it readable. (I have been years dreaming of it !!!)
Yesterday I found a very old mechanical watch that I wear as a child, a Swiss time Continental Gulf Stream T1517A. 44 years ago used to be a special and valuable present for a little boy. After playing with it for a minute in my hand, I started to wind it up and for my surprise, 44 years after I left it in a drawer, it started to work like the first day, with that special musical mechanical tick-tack sound.
This brought to my mind old memories and decided to wear it again, but in a special way, this time I will capture it and create a watchface as much close to the real thing as I can. I only retouched the display a bit to remove scratches and leave the real handcrafted sphere as it is, including unique craftmanship marks and defects. However I had to renew the watchhands a lot due to the difficulty of capturing little details through a very scratched glass. Added some shadows and that's all !! Now it looks as new ;-)
Original idea was to keep it as is... but I am now thinking about adding some complications... Well, at least this time I won't have to wind it up every night :-) I still remember my father scolding me for not winding the watch, and my little fingers hurting while winding it up, or when it stopped working in the very cold.
After all, working again since 44 years deserves a special treatment. It makes me happy to wear again that old watch in this such a special way.
Cheers for those of you that have stories like this, and maybe an oldish mechanical watch....
