What does "flashing firmware" meando?

That is, what does it mean? I see this when someone installs any watchface for the mi band 4 via app, but I fear that the app do something with the firmware and install any Cfw to the band, making me unable to update via mi fit app. can someone explain how the app works and if it changes anything in the original firmware apart from the watchface?

This is a translation error. The application does not install or change the firmware. The application just installs watchface
